DECK THE WALLS: How to throw a pop-up show
Posted on December 27, 2013
It all started a few weeks ago when our artist Jamie Chase gave us a call. He told us he had some works on paper in his studio that he’d like to sell.
“They’re just lying around,” he said. “Why not hang them up?”
Christmas was coming fast, and we didn’t have enough time to frame the work for a holiday show. Jamie came by the next day with a giant portfolio tucked under his arm. When we saw the paintings and monotypes inside, we knew something had to be done!
Now, the official definition for a pop-up show is an exhibition that takes place in a temporary show space. Still, as we cleared out one of our rooms and hammered nails into the wall, the exhibition felt pretty pop-up to us. A little paint on the wall and a sprinkling of snow in the corners was the perfect finishing touch. Et voilà:
Christmas is over now, but DECK THE WALLS has proven so popular that we’re staying open through New Year’s! Check out our special DECK THE WALLS page, and visit Matthews Gallery between now and January 1 before this pop-up show goes away.
Oh, we forgot the best part: everything in the show is $500 or less. Happy holidays!
